called Eighty Thousands Tripitaka. In ancient India, the number of eighty five thousands meant countless or the great number. Also, countless agonies of human are expressed as eighty four thousands agonies. The Sakyamuni Buddha's various discourses on emancipation from sufferings and attaining Buddhahood are called the eighty four thousands Dharma talks.

Even though 750 years has been passed since Tripitaka Koreana was carved, it has kept perfect conditions as an
engraved wooden block. Tripitaka Koreana is the oldest block that characters are engraved in the world and are the < correct and comprehensive collection of Tripitaka. Therefore, it has been great effect on spreading and studying Buddhism. At the same time, it affected development of world printing and publishing greatly. Thus, Tripitaka Kore-
ana which is the essence of Koryeo culture and shines brilliantly in the history of Buddhist culture became genera-
lly known in the world. Finally, UNESCO designated Tripitaka Koreana (National Treasure No. 32) and The Hall of
Tripitaka Koreana (National Treasure No. 52) which enshrines Tripitaka Koreana as World Heritage.
It means that Tripitaka Koreana has the great cultural value and importance in human history. Thus, we all Korean
descendants should be care of preservation of Tripitaka Koreana as the cultural inheritance of human race.
